As a film re-recording engineer, I dynamically mix the various elements of a moving picture soundtrack (dialogue, music, sound effects) to best engage the viewer, support the story being told, optimizing and layering the sound to best serve the director’s emotional intent. This is done in a technically calibrated, multi-channel theatre, under budget-driven time constraints in collaboration with the director, editors and/or producers. This is the last stage in movie-making and, from this vantage, the best place to gain insight on the post-production process and the use of sound in cinema and television.
